This is a big year for Route 66 and to help celebrate the Mother Road’s centennial, a caravan of historic cars is driving the highway that runs from Santa Monica to Chicago.

The caravan kicked off its road trip Saturday morning, Jan. 3, in Santa Monica before heading east and stopping at the Cucamonga Service Station in Rancho Cucamonga. The group will make stops along the way, as it travels east along what’s left of Route 66.

“The convoy will showcase nine classic and modern vehicles curated for a trip on the Mother Road,” according to America’s Automotive Trust website, the group making the trek, and is planning to reach Chicago on Jan. 12.

From Chicago, the vehicles will head to Detroit, for that city’s annual auto show.

“These vehicles, each representing a distinct era of design, innovation, and open-road exploration, will be featured inside the Detroit Auto Show: Route 66 Centennial Exhibition,” the website says.
