The San Gabriel Valley area high school girls soccer rankings as of Jan. 7. The rankings include teams covered by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star-News and Whittier Daily News.

GIRLS SOCCER TOP 20 RANKINGS

1. GLENDORA (8-0)

The Tartans have firmly established themselves as the top team in the SGV. They have allowed only two goals all season. They also compete in the unforgiving Palomares League, so a lot of big tests still to come. But so far, so good. Big game against Claremont on Friday.

2. BONITA (10-2)

The Bearcats reached the championship of the Ontario Christian tournament. They had their 10-game winning streak snapped with a loss to Upland 3-2 in the final. They’re 2-0 in the Palomares League. Big game against Glendora next week.

Previous: 5

3. BISHOP AMAT (11-3-2)

The Lancers opened the Del Rey League with a 3-1 win over Paraclete. Junior Bella Casas has a team-leading 13 goals. Freshman Brisea Jimenez has also been dangerous with seven goals. They could be a playoff threat.

Previous: 2

4. SONORA (9-3-3)

The Raiders have done well considering their tough schedule. They had a 0-0 tie against Glendora, though they lost in penalty kicks. They had good wins in late December over La Serna 2-0 and Esperanza 3-1.

Previous: 8

5. LA HABRA (13-5)

The Highlanders had a four-game winning streak snapped by a 3-1 loss to Cypress. It was their second loss to Cypress this season. They also dropped a 3-2 decision to Sonora in December. This is a battle-tested team.

6. SAN MARINO (6-0-1)

The Titans’ undefeated start includes wins over Prep League teams Mayfield 1-0 and Pasadena Poly 4-3. They haven’t played since Dec. 13. Their schedule will pick up with the start of the Rio Hondo League. They open league against South Pasadena.

Previous: 9

7. FLINTRIDGE PREP (5-4-3)

The Wolves’ schedule picked up in late December and they had mixed results. They had three straight losses — to La Habra, Oak Hills and Birmingham. They’re a talented team and favored to win the Prep League. Sophomore Julia Krause has eight goals.

Previous: 4

8. MUIR (10-2-1)

The Mustangs started their rebuild last season and have not stopped. They posted a big win, 3-2, over La Canada. They have huge games this week against Crescenta Valley and Arcadia. They also had a 1-0 win over San Dimas.

Previous: 17

9. ST. PAUL (10-2-1)

The Swordsmen started 10-0 and outscored their opponents 55-3 during that span. But they’re 2-2 over their last four games, which includes an 8-0 loss to Oxnard’s Del Sol. The tough games should help because they’re big favorites in the Santa Fe League.

Previous: 7

10. WALNUT (8-5-3)

The Mustangs opened the Palomares League with losses to Glendora 3-1 and Claremont 5-0. They’re a good team in a tough league. Their best hope for the playoffs might be to finish with a winning record and hope for a generous playoff division. We’ve seen that formula work before.
